Removal Guidelines
A lot of factors such as volume and weight will affect the price of the move. So it is a good idea to sort through all of your belongings and find out what to keep and what to throw away. In this way you will know exactly what is to be moved the day of the removal.
Be Prepared
- Sort through old clothes and choose what to bring and what not to bring. Remember, you can always donate your old clothes to charity.
- Remember to notify your local authorities that you are moving.
- If necessary book a time with your local plumber or electrician to disconnect appliances.
- Go through the attic, basement and/or garage and sort out what to bring.
- Return any loaned items.
- Place jewellery, passbook and personal papers a safe place, so you know where they are.
- Go through your kitchen appliances and pack whatever you do not need in the next couple of days. Keep a few important items close at hand, so you can do basic cooking while everything else is in boxes.
- Anything you need immediately after or during the move such as toiletries, linen, and clothes should be packed in separate boxes.
- Remember to defrost and clean the refrigerator and freezer. Remember to drain the washing machine and dishwasher for any leftover water.
- Arrange for transport boxes for your pets. Your local pet store can supply these.
- Collect all keys to the house, attic, basement, garage or any other places that might require a key.
And remember the key to your new home.
