Christmas Donation to Doctors Without Borders
Wednesday, 08 December 2010
For several years we have supported voluntary work done in the world's hotspots. This year we have decided to do it again by donating money, we would have spent on company Christmas presents, to Doctors Without Borders - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
Once again, we are pleased to be able to support this organisation, and we hope that by doing so, we help inspire others to support the massive work done each day in more than 60 countries, which helps thousands of people threatened by violence, neglect, or catastrophe.
Doctors Without Borders - Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) writes:
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, international, humanitarian organization that provides medical relief to victims of conflicts and disasters around the world.
MSF was founded in Paris in 1971 under the name of Médecins Sans Frontières – the more commonly known name internationally. MSF has offices in 19 countries and projects in more than 60 countries, sends out more than 3000 doctors, nurses, logisticians and other personnel to crisis and disaster areas.
MSF's primary task is to provide urgent medical relief. However an equally important part of MSF's work is to be present and to witness the inhuman conditions that exist in many places around the world which by the organization is referred to as témoignage.
Every day, MSF treats thousands of people around the world. The work is often in areas where other organizations do not exist and MSF provides aid to those most in need regardless of race, sex, religion and political opinion.
Private, non-earmarked funds are essential for MSF. They enable the organization to respond quickly and effectively to humanitarian crises and natural disasters.
Non-earmarked funds also allow MSF to keep administrative costs quite low, so the funds go to those most in need. At least 80% revenue goes directly to relief efforts.
In 1999, MSF received the Nobel Peace Prize.
